Mitchell Starc IPL 2027 Stats: Wickets, Price, Team
Mitchell Starc walked into IPL 2024 carrying a ₹24.75 crore price tag — the most expensive auction buy the league had ever seen — and for the first few weeks it showed. The Kolkata Knight Riders quick went wicketless and expensive in his opening games, and questions were being asked about the money. Then the playoffs arrived, and Starc reminded everyone why the bid had been made. He dismissed Travis Head first ball in Qualifier 1 on his way to 3/34 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, then produced an unplayable opening spell in the final — 2/14, including Abhishek Sharma’s stumps — to be named Player of the Match in both games as KKR lifted the trophy — the headline chapter of the Mitchell Starc IPL stats record, which now spans 76 wickets in 58 matches.
This page brings together the complete Mitchell Starc IPL stats record: every season from his 2014 debut with Royal Challengers Bengaluru to his Delhi Capitals stints in 2025 and 2026, his auction price history, his career bowling figures, and what is known about his IPL 2027 team.

Who Is Mitchell Starc?
Mitchell Aaron Starc, born 30 January 1990 in Baulkham Hills, New South Wales, is Australia’s premier left-arm fast bowler and one of the finest new-ball operators of his generation. His international career is studded with big-tournament performances: he was Player of the Tournament at the 2015 ODI World Cup with 22 wickets, finished as the leading wicket-taker at the 2019 World Cup, and has repeatedly delivered in Ashes series and ICC finals. His wife is Alyssa Healy, the captain of the Australian women’s team.
Starc’s relationship with the IPL has been unusual. After two productive seasons with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2014 and 2015, he stayed away from the league for eight years — through injuries, workload management, and international priorities — before returning in 2024 as the most expensive player in auction history. Since then he has played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals, collecting an IPL winners’ medal and some of the most dramatic individual spells of recent seasons.
Mitchell Starc IPL Teams
| Season | Team | How Joined | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2014 | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Auction (₹5 crore) | 14 matches, 14 wickets |
| 2015 | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Continued | 13 matches, 20 wickets |
| 2016 | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Retained (₹5 crore) | Did not play — foot fracture |
| 2018 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Auction (₹9.4 crore) | Did not play — tibial stress fracture |
| 2024 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Auction (₹24.75 crore) | 14 matches, 17 wickets — IPL champions |
| 2025 | Delhi Capitals | Auction (₹11.75 crore) | 11 matches, 14 wickets |
| 2026 | Delhi Capitals | Retained (₹11.75 crore) | 6 matches, 11 wickets |
| 2027 | To be decided | Not officially confirmed | Season not started |
Starc’s IPL journey has three distinct chapters. Bought by RCB for ₹5 crore in 2014, he took 34 wickets across two seasons before injuries wiped out his 2016 season and a self-imposed break kept him away through 2017. KKR picked him up for ₹9.4 crore in 2018, but a tibial stress fracture suffered on Australia’s South Africa tour ruled him out before a ball was bowled. The 2024 comeback was the blockbuster: KKR paid a then-record ₹24.75 crore, he delivered a title, KKR released him, and Delhi Capitals bought him for ₹11.75 crore in the 2025 auction before retaining him for the same figure in 2026.

The 2024 season was a story of two halves. Starc leaked more than 100 runs across his first two outings without a wicket and looked a liability at Eden Gardens, where the ball refused to swing. He steadied through the middle of the league stage — 2/25 against Delhi Capitals, 3/28 against Lucknow Super Giants, and a four-wicket haul against Mumbai Indians — and then produced one of the great playoff runs by a fast bowler. His 3/34 in Qualifier 1, headlined by the first-ball dismissal of Travis Head, took KKR to the final; his 2/14 in the final, including the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma with arguably the ball of the tournament, sealed the title. He became the first player to win the Player of the Match award twice in a single IPL playoffs.

Released by KKR after the title win, Starc was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹11.75 crore at the Jeddah auction and made an instant impression. In just his second game, against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Visakhapatnam on 30 March 2025, he produced figures of 5/35 — removing Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Travis Head inside the powerplay before returning to clean up the tail. It was his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket, the first by a Delhi Capitals pacer in the IPL, and only the second by any DC bowler after Amit Mishra in 2008. Kuldeep Yadav supported him with 3/22, Faf du Plessis struck a 27-ball fifty in the chase, and the winning runs came off a catch pouched by DC captain Axar Patel. The rest of the season was patchy — his economy stayed above 10 — and Delhi narrowly missed the playoffs.

Retained by Delhi for ₹11.75 crore, Starc joined the 2026 campaign after it had begun and featured in only the back half of the season. The Capitals kept faith in their 2025 core, with KL Rahul and Karun Nair among the retained Indian contingent. Despite the short stint, Starc’s numbers were his best since 2015: 11 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 20.36, including a four-wicket haul against Rajasthan Royals. His last IPL appearance to date came on 24 May 2026 against KKR at Eden Gardens, where he returned 2/26 in a 40-run Delhi win.

Mitchell Starc IPL Highest Score
Mitchell Starc’s highest IPL score is 29, made for Royal Challengers Bengaluru during his debut season in 2014. It remains his best by a distance — his next-highest season best is the unbeaten 9 he made in 2015. Batting has never been a meaningful part of his IPL role; across 58 matches he has 111 runs at a strike rate of 91.74 with 11 fours and no sixes recorded.
Mitchell Starc IPL Wickets and Best Bowling
Starc’s 76 IPL wickets break down as 14 (2014), 20 (2015), 17 (2024), 14 (2025) and 11 (2026). His best bowling figures are the 5/35 he took for Delhi Capitals against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Visakhapatnam on 30 March 2025 — his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket. He also has three four-wicket hauls: 4/15 for RCB in 2015, 4/33 for KKR against Mumbai Indians in 2024, and 4/40 for DC against Rajasthan Royals in 2026.
Mitchell Starc IPL Auction Price History
| Season | Team | Price | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2014 | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | ₹5 crore | Auction |
| 2016 | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | ₹5 crore | Retained — did not play (foot fracture) |
| 2018 | Kolkata Knight Riders | ₹9.4 crore | Auction — did not play (tibial stress fracture) |

| 2025 | Delhi Capitals | ₹11.75 crore | Auction |
| 2026 | Delhi Capitals | ₹11.75 crore | Retained |
Starc’s auction graph tells the story of his IPL career. A ₹5 crore signing in 2014, a ₹9.4 crore KKR punt in 2018 that injury erased, then the famous ₹24.75 crore bidding war of December 2023 — Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans were all involved before KKR closed it — which made him the most expensive player in IPL auction history at the time. KKR released him after the title-winning season, and Delhi bought him at less than half that figure in 2025 before retaining him for 2026.

Mitchell Starc’s IPL Performance Analysis
The numbers draw a clear arc. In 2014–15, Starc was the classic new-ball swing bowler: 34 wickets in 27 games at an economy just over 7, with 2015 (20 wickets at 14.55) the most complete season of his IPL career. After the eight-year gap, the 2024 return flipped the profile — expensive (10.61 an over, the cost of bowling at the death on flat Indian tracks) but devastating in the moments that mattered, with 17 wickets and two playoff-defining spells. The 2025 pattern was similar: a historic five-for early, then a 10.17 economy across the season as batters attacked him at the death.
The shortened 2026 stint hints at what a managed workload could look like — 11 wickets at 20.36 in just six games, his best average since that 2015 peak — though the sample is small and the economy remained above 10. The through-line across all five playing seasons is big-match temperament: when the game is on the line, as Qualifier 1 and the final of 2024 showed, Starc has repeatedly produced his best cricket. His batting has faded to irrelevance since the 2014 season, which is no concern for a strike bowler. The open question for 2027 is whether a franchise values the wicket-taking and the aura enough to pay up again — Delhi’s decision on whether to retain him a second time will say a lot.
