When is the IPL 2027 auction?
The IPL 2027 auction is scheduled for mid-December 2026.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed Goa as the host city on September 23, telling ANI that the auction would be staged in Goa in December. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal separately told PTI that December 15 and 16 were the likely dates, adding that the mini auction is expected to be wrapped up in a single day.
One important note: December 15 or 16 should not yet be treated as the final confirmed date. The BCCI has not publicly released the exact auction date. So at present:
- IPL 2027 auction date: mid-December 2026
- Likely dates: December 15 or 16
- Final date: awaiting official announcement
Where will the IPL 2027 auction be held?
The IPL 2027 auction will be held in Goa, India.
Saikia’s confirmation means the auction returns to Indian soil after three straight editions abroad — Dubai hosted the 2024 mini auction, Jeddah staged the 2025 mega auction, and Abu Dhabi hosted the 2026 mini auction. Goa is the first Indian host city since Kochi staged the 2023 auction.
The specific hotel or convention venue in Goa has not been publicly announced, so naming a particular property as the confirmed venue at this stage would be premature.
What time will the IPL 2027 auction start?
The IPL 2027 auction start time has not been officially announced.
Fans may come across different timings online, but start times from previous auctions should not be treated as the confirmed schedule for 2027. The BCCI is expected to announce the start time together with the final auction date and event schedule. Once the official schedule is out, the timing should become clear for viewers in India and international audiences.
Why is the IPL 2027 auction returning to India?
Bringing the auction home is largely a logistical call. Franchises found it difficult and expensive to fly large delegations overseas for a compact one-day mini auction, and December is peak wedding season in India, which had earlier complicated domestic venue and hotel availability. The IPL Governing Council decided to bring the event back to India, with Goa selected on the strength of its hospitality infrastructure.
The 2027 auction is also the final player auction of the current 2023–27 cycle, with the league preparing for its milestone 20th edition in 2027 — a point underlined in the BCCI’s announcements around the event.
Is the IPL 2027 auction a mini auction?
Yes. The IPL 2027 auction will be a mini auction, not a mega auction.
Teams will not rebuild their squads from scratch. Instead, franchises will focus on plugging specific gaps — replacements for released players, backup options, bowling reinforcements, batting depth, overseas slots and specialists for particular roles. Because of its smaller scale, the event is expected to be completed in one day, as confirmed by the IPL chairman.

The safest summary for fans right now: the auction takes place in Goa in mid-December 2026. December 15 and 16 remain the likely window named by the IPL chairman, but the final date needs a formal BCCI announcement before it can be treated as official — several websites may publish a specific date or time before that happens.
When will the IPL 2027 auction player list be announced?
The final player list has not been announced. The player pool, base prices and final shortlist are normally confirmed closer to the auction, after franchises finish their retention and release planning and player registrations close. The same applies to the final list of released players and the exact number of available slots per franchise. Fans should wait for the official announcement rather than trusting unofficial lists circulating online.
