Shams Mulani IPL stats tell a story that is still waiting for its main chapter. The Mumbai left-arm spinner took one of the most decorated domestic careers in Indian cricket into the IPL, arriving at the Mumbai Indians as a BCCI award-winning Ranji Trophy match-winner. Across three IPL seasons with the franchise, though, he has managed only two senior appearances, both in IPL 2024. Everything since has been about staying ready: a release before the IPL 2025 mega auction, an unsold tag, and a ferocious Ranji Trophy response that reminded everyone why the Mumbai camp valued him in the first place.
With IPL 2027 on the horizon, Mulani remains one of those players who could suddenly matter. His domestic record is elite: over 250 first-class wickets, an IPL debut in 2024, and the temperament of a man who answers rejection with five-wicket hauls. This page brings together Shams Mulani’s verified IPL numbers, his season-by-season record, auction price history, and what is confirmed about his IPL 2027 status. His official IPL player profile lists his registered playing details alongside this page.

Who Is Shams Mulani?
Shams Mulani is a left-arm spinning all-rounder from Raigad, Maharashtra, born on 13 March 1997, who has been the engine room of Mumbai’s domestic side for nearly a decade. He made his T20 debut for Mumbai in the 2017-18 Zonal T20 League, his List A debut in the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy, and his first-class debut in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy. Since then he has stacked up one of the heaviest workloads in Indian domestic cricket.
The 2021-22 season made his reputation. Mulani finished as the leading wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy, collecting the Madhavrao Scindia Award from the BCCI, and was also named the best all-rounder of the season with the Lala Amarnath Award. A year later he produced his career-best first-class figures of 7/46 against Hyderabad. He played a key part in Mumbai’s 2023-24 Ranji Trophy triumph, striking an unbeaten half-century in the final against Vidarbha, and followed it with an 11-wicket match haul against Odisha in November 2024.
His path to the IPL began in the background. He travelled with the Mumbai Indians as a support bowler during the IPL 2020 season and was called up as a short-term COVID-19 replacement for Axar Patel at the Delhi Capitals in 2021, though he did not get a game. The Mumbai Indians bought him at the IPL 2023 auction for Rs 20 lakh, and he finally made his IPL debut in 2024.
Shams Mulani IPL Teams
| Season | Team | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | Mumbai Indians | Bought at auction (Rs 20 lakh), no matches |
| 2024 | Mumbai Indians | Retained (Rs 20 lakh), 2 matches played |
| 2025 | – | Released by MI, unsold at mega auction |
| 2026 | – | In auction list, no IPL matches |
| 2027 | – | Not officially confirmed |
Mulani’s IPL journey has belonged entirely to the Mumbai Indians. The franchise bought him for his base price of Rs 20 lakh in the 2023 auction, kept him in the squad without a game that season, and retained him for the same amount in 2024, when he finally got his two appearances. He shared the dressing room with established Mumbai Indians stars such as Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction — and the recurring debate around a mini auction vs mega auction format — MI released him along with most of the squad beyond the five retained stars, and he went unsold at the auction. He was part of the official IPL 2026 auction list at a base price of Rs 30 lakh, but did not feature in Mumbai Indians’ post-auction squad. His IPL 2027 future will be decided at the next auction (see the IPL 2027 auction details for confirmed dates and venue), and nothing has been officially confirmed about his team or price.

Mulani’s IPL debut came on 24 March 2024 against the Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad, where he bowled three overs for 24 runs and stayed unbeaten on 1 with the bat. Three days later against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he bowled two overs that cost 33 runs. The numbers from his only season of IPL cricket are modest: five overs, 57 runs, no wickets, and a single unbeaten run. But they represent the hardest thing in franchise cricket for a domestic spinner, which is simply getting on the field in a Mumbai Indians side stacked with international bowlers.

Shams Mulani did not play in IPL 2025. Mumbai Indians released him before the mega auction, and he went unsold at the auction table. His answer came in whites: a few weeks after the auction, he took a magnificent six-wicket haul for Mumbai in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy semifinal against Vidarbha, including the key wickets of the in-form Karun Nair and Danish Malewar, bowling 44 overs with nine maidens across the innings. It was the third five-wicket haul of his Ranji campaign and a statement aimed squarely at the IPL snub.

Shams Mulani IPL 2027 Team and Price
Shams Mulani’s IPL 2027 team and price are not officially confirmed. He finished IPL 2026 unattached after going without an IPL side, and his last IPL team remains the Mumbai Indians, for whom he played in 2024. Franchises looking for a left-arm spinning all-rounder with a heavy domestic workload and proven big-match temperament could plausibly bid for him at the IPL 2027 auction, but no official announcement has been made. Teams will finalise their plans under the IPL 2027 retention rules and purse guide before the auction.

Shams Mulani IPL Highest Score
Shams Mulani’s highest IPL score is 1*, made on his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians against the Gujarat Titans on 24 March 2024 at Ahmedabad. Batting late in the order, he faced a single ball and finished unbeaten. Shams Mulani IPL Wickets and Best Bowling
Shams Mulani is yet to take an IPL wicket. His best IPL bowling figures are 0/24 from three overs, recorded on his debut against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024. Shams Mulani’s IPL Performance Analysis
Two matches is no sample at all, and that is the honest starting point for analysing Shams Mulani’s IPL numbers. His five overs in IPL 2024 went at 11.40 an over, with the debut spell of 3-0-24-0 against Gujarat Titans showing the control he is known for and the two-over burst against Sunrisers Hyderabad (0/33) showing how quickly a young spinner can be targeted when a power-hitter gets set. He was not given a second chance in the same season, and Mumbai’s spin slots have been crowded territory ever since.
The more useful signal is the gap between his domestic output and his IPL opportunity. Across formats he has been Mumbai’s most bankable bowler for years: 265 first-class wickets at 24.54, a List A average under 30, and a T20 economy of 6.99 with 62 wickets. Left-arm orthodox spinners who can bat a little are exactly the profile IPL teams hunt at the auction table, which is why his unsold status in 2025 was more about squad arithmetic than quality. His six-wicket haul in the Ranji semifinal weeks after that snub was the strongest possible argument that the league has not seen the real Shams Mulani yet.
