Mumbai Indians hold the record for the largest win margin by runs in IPL history. They beat Delhi Daredevils by 146 runs in Delhi on 6 May 2017. Mumbai scored 212 for 3, then bowled Delhi out for just 66. No team has beaten that margin since, even after many high scoring seasons.
A win by runs is decided by the gap between the two team totals. The bigger the gap, the more one sided the match was. This list looks at the ten biggest gaps ever seen in the IPL. Royal Challengers Bengaluru feature more often than any other team, four times as winners and three times on the losing side. Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad have two wins each in the top ten.
Three of the ten wins came after 2019, which shows a 100 run win is still rare even in high scoring seasons. Just outside the top ten sits Rajasthan Royals, who beat Delhi Daredevils by 105 runs in the 2008 semifinal in Mumbai.

Record History
The record started on the very first night of the IPL. On 18 April 2008, Brendon McCullum scored an unbeaten 158 for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Kolkata reached 222 for 3 and bowled Bengaluru out for 82, a winning margin of 140 runs. That mark stood for eight seasons. Royal Challengers Bengaluru came close in 2013 with a 130 run win and again in 2015 with a 138 run win, but neither passed it.
The record finally moved in 2016. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers both scored centuries as Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted 248 for 3 against Gujarat Lions in Bengaluru. Gujarat Lions were bowled out for 104, and the margin of 144 runs took the top spot. It lasted only one season. In 2017, Mumbai Indians scored 212 for 3 in Delhi and bowled Delhi Daredevils out for 66 in 13.4 overs. The 146 run margin has stayed at the top ever since.
Later seasons added new entries lower down the list but never threatened the top. Kings XI Punjab had already won by 111 runs in 2011. Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 118 runs in 2019 and by 110 runs in 2025, when Heinrich Klaasen scored an unbeaten 105 off 39 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders. Kolkata Knight Riders closed the top ten with their 106 run win over Delhi Capitals in 2024.
What This Record Tells Us
Four of the top ten wins happened in Bengaluru, which shows how batting friendly that ground can be when a team gets going. Four of the ten winning totals were above 240, and the lowest winning total in the list is 171, from Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Rajasthan Royals in 2023. That match proves a huge margin does not always need a huge total. Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 59, so the margin still reached 112 runs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru sit on both sides of this record. They own four of the ten biggest wins, yet they also lost three of the other matches on the list. Big wins usually come from a strong batting show followed by early wickets in the chase. When the chasing team loses early wickets, the required run rate climbs fast and the innings can end well before 20 overs. That is why nine of these ten chases ended with the losing team bowled out. For the opposite kind of drama, see the list of highest successful run chases in IPL, where the chasing team wins instead. The official IPL records page also lists the largest win margins by runs for checking these numbers.
