Shaik Rasheed waited three seasons in the Chennai Super Kings dugout before finally getting his chance in yellow. Bought at the IPL 2023 auction straight out of India’s victorious Under-19 World Cup campaign, the right-hander from Guntur spent 2023 and 2024 on the bench, learning behind some of the biggest names in the game. When the debut finally came in April 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants, he announced himself with a 19-ball 27 at the top of the order.
Rasheed’s IPL story so far is still only a prologue: five matches, 71 runs, and a reputation that rests more on his domestic record and youth pedigree than on his brief senior-level numbers. This page tracks his complete IPL journey, from the ₹20 lakh auction pick-up in 2023 to his ₹30 lakh buy-back at the 2025 mega auction, with verified season-by-season statistics.

Who Is Shaik Rasheed?
Shaik Rasheed was born on 24 September 2004 in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. A right-hand batter who plays for Andhra in domestic cricket, he first came to national attention as the vice-captain of India’s triumphant ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 side, where he scored 201 runs in four innings at an average of 50.25, including a 94 against Australia in the semi-final and an unbeaten 50 in the final against England.
He made his first-class debut for Andhra in February 2022 and has since built a solid domestic record, including a first-class double hundred. Chennai Super Kings signed him at the IPL 2023 auction for ₹20 lakh on the strength of that youth record, viewing him as a long-term investment in top-order talent.

Shaik Rasheed’s IPL Performance Analysis
Five matches is far too small a sample for firm conclusions, but the pattern of Rasheed’s short IPL career so far is clear: promise, patience, and a first taste that showed both sides of his game. His 112.69 strike rate across those five innings suggests a batter looking to score, not merely survive, and his debut knock of 27 off 19 balls showed he could handle the occasion.
The low average of 14.20 tells the other half of the story — once past the debut, he fell cheaply in three of his four remaining innings, including a single-ball duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad. For a 21-year-old opening against new-ball attacks, that inconsistency is unsurprising. His domestic first-class record, built at an average close to 48, is a much better guide to his technique and temperament than five T20 innings.
The question for 2027 is whether CSK still see him in their plans after a season on the bench in 2026. The franchise has now invested four years in him without a full run of games; his next contract will say a lot about where he sits in their future.
