How the Fours Race Unfolded in IPL 2025

Sudharsan took charge of the fours race around the middle of the season and never let go. A mid season fours tracker on 22 May had him on 68 fours from 12 innings, already eight clear of Yashasvi Jaiswal. He added 20 more fours in his last three innings, including the playoffs, to finish on 88.

The chasing pack changed shape late. Suryakumar Yadav climbed to second with a strong finish for Mumbai Indians, ending on 69 fours to go with his 38 sixes and the Most Valuable Player award. Virat Kohli surged past Shubman Gill in the final week, moving from 44 fours with four games left to 66, and he did it in a title winning season for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Mitchell Marsh and Prabhsimran Singh finished level on 56 fours, with Marsh ahead on fewer innings. Jos Buttler and KL Rahul also finished level, both on 52, which shows how tight the race for the last two spots became. What This Record Tells Us

Every player in the top 10 batted in the top three, and most of them opened. Fours reward batters who face the most balls while the field is up, so openers dominate this list almost every season. It is a record built on opportunity as much as skill.

The fours tally also tracks the runs tally closely. The top five fours hitters finished among the top six run scorers of the season. Sudharsan scored 352 of his 759 runs through fours alone, close to half his total, which shows how placement can match power in T20 cricket.

Sudharsan and Suryakumar reached the top two in very different ways. Sudharsan hit only 21 sixes but pierced gaps all season, while Suryakumar mixed 69 fours with 38 sixes. Gujarat Titans placed three batters in the top 10, the most by any team, which explains why their top order scored so heavily. That firepower also put them among the teams with the most fours in IPL 2025.
