Madhav Tiwari took one of the more unusual routes into the IPL. He arrived with no senior domestic cricket for his state and no first-class or List-A debut, yet Delhi Capitals were convinced enough to pay Rs 40 lakh for him at the IPL 2025 mega auction, and his career figures tell the story of a cricketer built for pressure situations. After a single match in 2025, he got a genuine run at the back end of IPL 2026 and responded with four wickets in three games and a Player-of-the-Match award on his first appearance of the season.
The 22-year-old from Madhya Pradesh calls himself a complete seam-bowling all-rounder, and his breakthrough IPL innings against Punjab Kings in 2026 showed why. Chasing under pressure, he smashed a boundary off his very first ball, followed it with a six and another four, and finished the job unbeaten. With 21 runs and 4 wickets in just four IPL matches, Madhav Tiwari is one of the youngest names in the Delhi Capitals squad and one of the few IPL cricketers to break through without a conventional domestic pathway behind him.

Who Is Madhav Tiwari?
Madhav Tiwari was born on September 28, 2003, in Mauganj district of Madhya Pradesh. He developed his game at Amay Khurasiya’s Cricket Academy and made his mark in age-group cricket, representing the Indore division at Under-15 and Under-18 level before captaining the Under-18 side to a championship, where he scored a double century in a key match. He finished as the highest wicket-taker in the 2021-22 Senior Division MK Bhaya Trophy and has played for Madhya Pradesh at Under-19 and Under-23 level, including the 2024-25 CK Nayudu Trophy.
What makes his story unusual is that he reached the IPL without senior domestic cricket for his state. He is yet to make his first-class or List-A debut for Madhya Pradesh. His visibility came through T20 leagues instead: in 2024 he played for Bhopal Leopards in the Madhya Pradesh T20 League, where he scored 72 runs at a strike rate of 205.71 and took three wickets, including a hat-trick against Rewa, plus six catches. He played for Jain Irrigation in the DY Patil T20 Cup 2025. Originally a batter, he was moulded into a complete seam-bowling all-rounder at Khurasiya’s academy, and his own description of himself has become famous: “I am 100% a batter and 100% a bowler.”

His first IPL season was spent almost entirely on the sidelines. He played just one match for Delhi Capitals, batting at number 8 and scoring 3 runs, and did not get an opportunity to bowl. He was named in the XI for the Delhi Capitals’ game against Punjab Kings at Dharamsala on May 8, 2025 in place of Vipraj Nigam, but that match was suspended after just 10.1 overs of play, so its figures do not count in his official record. 2025 was effectively a learning year spent watching and training with the squad.

His wickets were Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly, and his batting sealed a tense chase. In the next game, against Rajasthan Royals, he took two more wickets including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, finishing with 2 for 27. Coming in with Delhi Capitals in a tense chase, he hit a boundary off his first ball, then a six and another four, and finished the game unbeaten to win the Player-of-the-Match award. It was his only IPL innings to date that he completed unbeaten, and it showed the power-hitting ability that first brought him attention in the Madhya Pradesh T20 League.

Madhav Tiwari IPL Records and Achievements
Madhav Tiwari’s record so far is built on promise rather than silverware. His standout achievement is the Player-of-the-Match award on his first appearance of IPL 2026, when his all-round display against Punjab Kings sealed a three-wicket win for Delhi Capitals. Before the IPL, he was the highest wicket-taker in the 2021-22 Senior Division MK Bhaya Trophy and took a hat-trick for Bhopal Leopards in the 2024 Madhya Pradesh T20 League. He is yet to play international cricket.
Madhav Tiwari’s IPL Performance Analysis
Four matches is a tiny sample, but the shape of it is clear. Tiwari bowls at decent pace, touches 135kph, and has worked on three or four slower-ball variations, which showed in his 2026 spells: four wickets in ten overs with an economy of 8.70 is respectable for a young seamer bowling against set batters in the second half of an innings. His batting tells an even cleaner story of role clarity. He comes in low down the order and swings hard: 18 not out off eight balls, strike rate 225, in a real chase, is exactly the kind of cameo modern teams value from a seam-bowling all-rounder.
The concern is experience. No first-class or List-A cricket for Madhya Pradesh means his IPL appearances are among the highest-level matches he has played, and Delhi used him only sparingly: one game in 2025 and three in 2026. Whether he holds his place depends on the franchise’s direction in the auction and retention cycle, but his 2026 finish gave Delhi a reason to keep believing in the Rs 40 lakh pick.
