Sumit Kumar IPL 2027 Stats: Runs, Wickets, Price, Team
Sumit Kumar arrived in the IPL the hard way: years of doing the quiet work for Haryana before one breakthrough domestic season forced the franchises to notice. The right-arm medium-fast all-rounder had been Haryana’s most consistent new-ball option in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for years, and then his 2023-24 Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign turned heads across the country. Eighteen wickets at an economy of 4.15, a match-winning final, and the player-of-the-tournament award later, Delhi Capitals outbid Kolkata Knight Riders to sign him for a crore at the 2024 auction. His four-match IPL stint in 2024 never took flight, and after his release ahead of the 2025 mega auction he found no buyer. That arc, from domestic workhorse to million-rupee signing to the unsold list, makes Sumit Kumar’s IPL story one of the sharpest illustrations of how fine the margins are in franchise cricket. Here is his complete IPL profile, with verified season-by-season numbers, auction history, and his status ahead of IPL 2027.

Who Is Sumit Kumar?
Born on 12 December 1995 in Gurgaon, Haryana, Sumit Kumar is a right-arm medium-fast bowling all-rounder who bats right-handed and plays domestic cricket for Haryana. He made his List A debut for Haryana in 2019 and soon became a fixture in the state’s side across formats. Before the IPL came calling, he had built a reputation as a dependable seam option with useful lower-order hitting, the kind of cricketer coaches trust in pressure overs. His breakthrough arrived in the 2023-24 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he finished as the player of the tournament after taking 18 wickets at an economy rate of 4.15. In the final, he produced 3 for 47 and a brisk 28 off 16 balls to take the player-of-the-match award as well. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he has been Haryana’s leading wicket-taker since his debut in February 2019, with 43 wickets at an economy of 7.37 in that competition. An amusing footnote from the 2024 auction: Delhi Capitals briefly shared a photograph of a different Sumit Kumar, a Jharkhand wicketkeeper, when announcing the signing, a mix-up the auctioned all-rounder and his family found out about on live television.

He played four matches in the first month of the season, then did not appear again. Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Delhi released him along with most of the 2024 squad. He entered the 2025 mega auction at a base price of INR 30 lakh but went unsold, and he did not feature in the 2026 season either.

Sumit Kumar’s IPL Performance Analysis
Four matches is a thin sample, but the numbers tell a clear story about opportunity rather than ability. Sumit Kumar’s IPL career with Delhi Capitals amounts to 18 runs from 24 balls and 20 deliveries with the ball, figures that say far more about how little he was used than how he performed. He arrived at Delhi on the back of genuine domestic pedigree: the 2023-24 Vijay Hazare player-of-the-tournament award and years as Haryana’s leading SMAT wicket-taker gave him a strong claim as a seam-bowling all-rounder. The franchise paid five times his base price after fighting off Kolkata Knight Riders, which suggests the scouting saw real upside. Yet he bowled barely three overs in a month and batted only three times from number eight. Delhi’s 2024 campaign was unsettled, and a domestic all-rounder with no margin for error rarely survives a team in churn. His release ahead of the 2025 mega auction was part of a near-total squad rebuild rather than a verdict on him personally, but the unsold tag at that auction was the market’s verdict: with 2025 being a mega-auction year full of proven names, there was no room for a 28-year-old with four scattered appearances. The route back is the same route that got him there. Continued wicket-taking and lower-order runs for Haryana in domestic white-ball cricket remain his only lever for an IPL recall, and at 30 he is in the age window where one more standout domestic season could still bring a bid.
