Tanay Thyagarajann IPL stats tell an unusual story: a bowler who holds an IPL contract on paper but has not played a single IPL match. The Hyderabad left-arm spinner earned his first IPL deal in December 2023, when Punjab Kings bought him for Rs 20 lakh on the back of a 2023-24 Ranji Trophy campaign in which he took 56 wickets in seven matches. He spent the 2024 season in the Kings’ squad without getting a game, was released ahead of the 2025 mega auction, and went unsold in both the 2025 and 2026 auctions. The official IPL site still shows zero matches and no IPL debut against his name.
With the 2027 season yet to begin, the uncapped 30-year-old goes into another auction cycle with his domestic record doing the talking: more than 160 first-class wickets, including a nine-wicket match haul against Tripura in October 2026. This page brings together his verified IPL numbers, price history, and what comes next.

Who Is Tanay Thyagarajann?
Tanay Thyagarajann is a left-arm orthodox spinner who plays domestic cricket for Hyderabad. Born in Bengaluru on 15 November 1995, he grew up in Hyderabad and came through the Hyderabad age-group system after learning his cricket at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Cricket Academy. He made his List A debut in the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy, his T20 debut in the 2017-18 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and his first-class debut in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy.
Thyagarajann was Hyderabad’s leading wicket-taker in his debut first-class season with 17 wickets in five matches, and he built steadily from there. His breakout came in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy, when he finished as the leading wicket-taker of the Plate League with 56 wickets in seven matches, including seven five-wicket hauls. That season put him on the IPL radar. A left-handed batter as well, he has scored useful lower-order runs in domestic cricket, including first-class fifties. Career trackers credit him with more than 160 first-class wickets, the most recent addition being a nine-wicket match haul against Tripura in the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy opener.

Tanay Thyagarajann’s IPL Performance Analysis
There are no IPL performances to analyse yet, which is itself the defining feature of Thyagarajann’s league career so far. His numbers describe a player signed for potential rather than delivered output: Punjab Kings paid Rs 20 lakh for a red-ball wicket-taker at the peak of his domestic form, then never found a match situation that suited an uncapped left-arm spinner.
The trend in his domestic record, though, is consistent and encouraging. His wicket-taking has grown with experience: 17 wickets in his first Ranji season, the 56-wicket 2023-24 campaign, and a career tally now past 160 first-class wickets, with a strike rate that reflects a bowler who attacks rather than contains. The nine wickets against Tripura in October 2026 came at age 30, showing his red-ball effectiveness has not faded. If he gets an IPL chance, the template is the economical middle-overs left-arm spinner, with lower-order batting as a bonus. Whether the 2027 auction gives him that chance is the open question his next domestic season will answer.
