IPL 2025 Records: Most Wickets

Prasidh Krishna ended IPL 2025 as the bowler with the most wickets in the season. The Gujarat Titans fast bowler took 25 wickets in 15 matches and claimed the Purple Cap, the award given to the highest wicket taker of an IPL season. It was the first Purple Cap of his career, and it came after one of the closest bowling races the league has seen in recent years.

Noor Ahmad of Chennai Super Kings pushed him all the way and finished one wicket short on 24. Royal Challengers Bengaluru quick Josh Hazlewood took 22 wickets in only 12 matches and played a big part in his team’s first ever title win. Trent Boult of Mumbai Indians also finished on 22, while Arshdeep Singh of Punjab Kings took 21. This page lists the full top 10 wicket takers of IPL 2025 with their numbers, cross checked against published season stats, and looks at what made the season stand out for bowlers.

Hazlewood sits above Boult because he took his 22 wickets at a better average, 17.55 against 23.50. Just outside the top 10, Marco Jansen, Mohammed Siraj and Yuzvendra Chahal all finished on 16 wickets. Among the top five, the best single match returns were Krishna’s 4 for 41, Noor Ahmad’s 4 for 18, Hazlewood’s 4 for 33, Boult’s 4 for 26 and Arshdeep’s 3 for 16.

Record History

The Purple Cap race stayed tight through most of the season. Noor Ahmad’s mystery spin made him a threat in every game at Chepauk and he finished just one wicket behind Krishna, while Hazlewood’s strike power in the powerplay kept him in the hunt despite playing fewer matches than anyone else in the top five. Krishna’s steady wicket taking across all 15 of Gujarat’s games gave him the edge in the end.

The winning total of 25 sits in the middle of recent history. Mohammed Shami needed 28 wickets to win the cap in 2023 and Harshal Patel took 32 in 2021, but only 24 were enough for Harshal in 2024. Gujarat’s bowling depth also stood out. Three of their bowlers ended among the leading wicket takers of the season: Krishna with 25, Sai Kishore with 19 and Siraj with 16. What This Record Tells Us

Pace ruled the 2025 wicket charts. Four of the top five were fast bowlers, with Noor Ahmad the only spinner in that group. That is a clear sign that raw pace and new ball swing still decide T20 games, even on the slower Indian pitches.

Control mattered as much as strike power. Every bowler in the top five finished the season with an economy rate below 9 runs per over: Krishna 8.27, Noor Ahmad 8.16, Hazlewood 8.30, Boult 8.96 and Arshdeep 8.88. In a season full of big totals, the best wicket takers were also the hardest to score off.

The numbers also show why Gujarat will be keen to keep their attack together. A team with the Purple Cap winner plus two more bowlers in the top 13 has a ready made core, and you can read how teams plan their squads in our IPL 2027 retention rules and purse guide.
