Pune Warriors India played only three IPL seasons, from 2011 to 2013, but the batting charts against them carry some of the biggest names in T20 cricket. The side won just 12 of its 46 matches, and opposition batters made merry. Chris Gayle sits far above everyone else with the most runs against Pune Warriors: 383 runs in only 5 innings, powered by the most famous innings in IPL history, his unbeaten 175 in Bengaluru in 2013.
This page lists the batters who piled up the most runs against PWI, with innings, average, strike rate and ighest scores for each. It also traces how the record built up across the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons, and what the numbers say about one of the weakest bowling attacks of the early IPL years.

Record History: PWI across 2011 to 2013
Pune Warriors India joined the IPL in 2011 alongside Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The team never found its feet. It finished second last in its debut season, last in 2012, and second last again in 2013 before leaving the league over financial differences with the BCCI. The franchise was officially terminated in October 2013. Because PWI played only three seasons, this record is frozen: no batter will ever add to a tally against them.
| Season | Played | Won | Lost | Position | PWI top run scorer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2011 | 14 | 4 | 9 | 9th of 10 | Yuvraj Singh, 343 runs |
| 2012 | 16 | 4 | 12 | 9th of 9 | Robin Uthappa, 405 runs |
| 2013 | 16 | 4 | 12 | 8th of 9 | Aaron Finch, 456 runs |
The biggest milestones against PWI came in 2012 and 2013. On 24 April 2012, Virender Sehwag smashed an unbeaten 87 off 48 balls in Pune as Delhi Daredevils chased 147 with four overs to spare. A year later, Chris Gayle produced the innings of the decade: 175 not out off 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 23 April 2013 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, with 13 fours and 17 sixes. He shared a 167 run first wicket stand with Tillakaratne Dilshan, who made 33. That stand belongs among the biggest opening partnerships in IPL history. RCB posted 263 for 5 and won by 130 runs. Gayle’s 175 not out remains the highest individual score in IPL history and tops the list of the highest individual scores by openers in IPL.
Pune Warriors played their last ever match against Delhi Daredevils on 19 May 2013, which ended in a win for the home side. Full season archives are available on the official IPL site.
What This Record Tells Us
The gap at the top is the story of this chart. Chris Gayle scored 163 runs more than second placed Virender Sehwag, nearly double the tally, in the same number of innings. His average of 95.75 and strike rate of 199.47 against PWI are absurd by any standard, and almost half his total came from one innings.
Depth matters too. Every batter in the top 10 averaged 30 or more against PWI, and strike rates sit well above what most bowling attacks allow. That tells you how soft this attack was: a mix of domestic bowlers with a few names, but no settled core and no real pace or spin threat for three straight seasons.
The list also shows how record tables against short lived teams freeze in time. Rising Pune Supergiant, the later Pune based side, has its own chart of the most runs against it, but PWI’s three season run is done and sealed. Chris Gayle, a two time Orange Cap winner, is the only batter to cross 300 runs against them. His full record is broken down on our page on Chris Gayle against each team.
