Luke Wood’s IPL career so far is a story of two very different chapters. The England left-arm fast-medium bowler arrived at Mumbai Indians in March 2024 as an injury replacement for Jason Behrendorff, played two matches, and took one wicket while conceding 15.50 runs an over. That is his entire IPL playing record to date. This page brings together the complete Luke Wood IPL stats: matches, wickets, best bowling, batting numbers, and his price and team history, including his ₹75 lakh move to Gujarat Titans at the IPL 2026 auction.
Wood has been part of the IPL since 2024 but has spent most of that time on the sidelines. He was not bought in the 2025 auction, returned to the league when Gujarat Titans picked him up in the 2026 mini auction, and did not play a single match in the 2026 season. Below is a season-by-season breakdown of his IPL numbers, his auction price history, and his confirmed IPL 2027 status.

Who Is Luke Wood?
Luke Wood was born on 2 August 1995 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and plays international cricket for England. A left-arm fast-medium bowler who swings the new ball into right-handers, he made his first-class debut for Nottinghamshire in September 2014, spent loan spells at Northamptonshire and Worcestershire, and joined Lancashire in 2020. He won the T20 Blast twice, with Nottinghamshire in 2017 and Worcestershire in 2018.
Wood made his England T20I debut against Pakistan in September 2022 and his ODI debut against Australia in November 2022. He has built his reputation on the T20 franchise circuit, with spells in the PSL, BPL, Big Bash League and The Hundred. In the 2024 Pakistan Super League he was Peshawar Zalmi’s most effective bowler with 12 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 29.08. That form brought him to the attention of IPL scouts ahead of the 2024 season.

Wood has been on the books of two IPL franchises. Mumbai Indians signed him on 18 March 2024 as a replacement for the injured Jason Behrendorff, who had fractured his left fibula before the tournament. The five-time champions wanted a like-for-like left-arm option alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee in Hardik Pandya‘s first season as MI captain. After a difficult two-match stint, he was not bought in the 2025 auction. Gujarat Titans then acquired him at his base price of ₹75 lakh in the December 2025 mini auction in Abu Dhabi, adding a left-arm angle to a pace attack led by Mohammed Siraj and Rashid Khan under captain Shubman Gill — but he never made it into the playing eleven in 2026.

His second and last appearance of the season was on 27 April against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium: four overs for 68 runs with one wicket, and 9 not out off 3 balls with the bat. An economy rate of 15.50 across the two games explains why he was not used again that season. The solitary wicket came caught, and the 68 runs conceded in the Delhi game account for most of his career IPL figures.

Gujarat Titans bought Wood for ₹75 lakh at the December 2025 mini auction, but he recorded zero appearances in the 2026 tournament. With overseas slots contested by established names and a strong Indian pace core ahead of him, he stayed on the bench for the entire campaign. His career IPL numbers therefore remain exactly what they were after the 2024 season.
Luke Wood IPL 2027 Stats
IPL 2027 statistics are not available yet because the season has not started. Wood was part of the Gujarat Titans squad in 2026 on a ₹75 lakh contract, but the franchise has not officially announced whether he is retained or released for 2027, and no auction or trade involving him has been confirmed. This section will be updated once his IPL 2027 status is official.
Luke Wood IPL 2027 Team and Price
Wood’s IPL 2027 team and price are not officially confirmed. His last confirmed contract is with Gujarat Titans, who bought him for ₹75 lakh at the December 2025 mini auction. Several media outlets have named him among the players Gujarat Titans could release before the 2027 auction after his zero-appearance 2026 season, but those are predictions, not official announcements. Details of the IPL 2027 retention deadline and rules will decide whether he stays in the GT squad or goes back into the auction pool.

Luke Wood IPL Highest Score
Wood’s highest IPL score is 9 not out off 3 balls, made against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on 27 April 2024. It is also his only IPL innings. He struck one six in the brief cameo at a strike rate of 300.00. He is a lower-order hitter rather than a frontline batter, and his batting has had no influence on his IPL value so far.
Luke Wood IPL Wickets and Best Bowling
Wood has taken 1 wicket in his IPL career. His best bowling figures are 1/68, taken in his four-over spell against Delhi Capitals on 27 April 2024 — the only match in which he has dismissed anyone in the league. The wicket came via a catch. His other appearance, the debut against Gujarat Titans on 24 March 2024, returned 0/25 in two overs. With an average of 93.00 and a strike rate of 36.00, his bowling returns are among the thinnest on record for any bowler with multiple IPL appearances.
Luke Wood IPL Batting Records
Wood has no meaningful IPL batting records. He has batted once in the league — the 9 not out off 3 balls against Delhi Capitals in 2024 — with one six, no fours, no fifties and no hundreds.
Luke Wood IPL Auction Price History
| Season | Team | Price | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Mumbai Indians | ₹50 lakh | Replacement signing (base price) |
| 2025 | — | — | Unsold at the auction |
| 2026 | Gujarat Titans | ₹75 lakh | Auction (mini auction) |
| 2027 | — | Not officially confirmed | — |
Wood went unsold at the IPL 2024 auction before Mumbai Indians picked him up at his base price of ₹50 lakh as an injury replacement. After going unsold again in 2025, Gujarat Titans bought him for ₹75 lakh — half a crore above his 2024 fee — in the 2026 mini auction.
Luke Wood IPL Records and Achievements
Wood does not hold any notable IPL records or achievements. His league record consists of two matches, one wicket and one unbeaten cameo, with no Player of the Match awards, no four- or five-wicket hauls, and no playoff appearances.
Luke Wood’s IPL Performance Analysis
Two matches are far too small a sample for firm conclusions, but the available numbers tell a clear story. Wood was signed in 2024 as a swing-bowling, like-for-like stand-in for Behrendorff, yet his IPL returns — 93 runs conceded for a single wicket — show a bowler who could not adapt to Indian conditions in the chances he got. The Delhi game, where he conceded 68 in four overs, appears to have closed the door at Mumbai, and the 2025 auction snub confirmed that the league’s scouts agreed.
The Gujarat Titans purchase in 2026 looks like a depth signing: a cheap left-arm option behind an established pace attack. That he never played a game for them suggests he was insurance rather than part of the first-choice plans. His IPL future now depends on whether GT see enough in training to retain him, or whether he re-enters the auction, where his 2024 figures will count against him. At 31, he remains an active T20 bowler on the global circuit, so a domestic-league renaissance is the most plausible route back to a regular IPL role.
