Jacob Bethell IPL 2027 Stats: Runs, Fifties, Price, Team
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s ₹2.60 crore punt on Jacob Bethell at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah was a bet on promise as much as production. The Barbados-born England left-hander had to wait patiently in a star-packed RCB squad, and his chance only came when Phil Salt fell ill midway through the season. Bethell opened with Virat Kohli on debut against Delhi Capitals on 27 April 2025, scratching out 12 off six balls. A game later, against Chennai Super Kings, he announced himself properly: a 33-ball 55 studded with eight fours and two sixes, sharing a 97-run opening stand with Kohli inside 10 overs.
His first IPL stint ended early when England duty called him home before the playoffs, though he still finished the season as part of RCB’s maiden IPL title-winning squad. Retained ahead of IPL 2026, Bethell played seven games in his second season, taking his Jacob Bethell IPL stats to 163 runs from nine matches at a strike rate of 140.52.

Who Is Jacob Bethell?
Jacob Graham Bethell was born on 23 October 2003 in Bridgetown, Barbados, and represents England internationally. A left-handed batter who bowls useful slow left-arm orthodox spin, he is often described as a three-dimensional cricketer: aggressive with the bat, handy with the ball, and sharp in the field. He plays county cricket for Warwickshire and turns out for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.
Bethell’s England rise was rapid. He made his T20I debut against Australia at Southampton in September 2024, his ODI debut against Australia at Nottingham days later, and his Test debut against New Zealand at Christchurch in November 2024, where he scored a fifty on debut. In January 2026 he struck his maiden Test hundred at the Sydney Cricket Ground during the Ashes, becoming the sixth Englishman to register his first first-class century in a Test match. RCB signed him at the IPL 2025 mega auction to add left-handed firepower and a spin option to their squad.

Jacob Bethell’s IPL Performance Analysis
Two seasons in, Bethell’s IPL record is a study in small samples. His 2025 numbers — 67 runs at a strike rate of 171.79 — look electric, but they come from just two innings, one of which was the 33-ball 55 against Chennai. His 2026 return — 96 runs at 13.71 across seven games — is the larger sample and the more sobering one, with a strike rate of 124.68 that sits below the modern IPL standard for a top-order batter.
Context matters. Bethell has never had a fixed role: in 2025 he was an emergency opener, in 2026 a rotational pick in a championship-winning line-up. His left-handedness and part-time spin give RCB tactical flexibility, and his international record — including a Test hundred at the SCG — shows the talent is real. But at IPL level he is still waiting for an extended run to prove he belongs. The numbers so far describe potential glimpsed, not yet delivered.
