Ashok Sharma walked into IPL 2026 with three franchises, two auctions and zero appearances behind him, and left it with six matches for Gujarat Titans, a maiden IPL wicket on debut and the fastest delivery reportedly clocked in the season. It was the kind of breakthrough that made sense only if you knew the backstory: a farmer’s son from Rampura near Jaipur who nearly quit cricket in 2021, then came through a Red Bull Speedster talent hunt to touch 140 kph and turn himself into Rajasthan’s leading pace prospect. The core facts of Ashok Sharma IPL Stats are simple to state. He debuted for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 season opener against Punjab Kings, bowled his first ball at 149.7 kph and finished the season with 6 wickets from 6 matches at an economy of 10.86. His IPL 2027 team and price are not officially confirmed yet, because the season has not started.
That debut game told you most of what you need to know about why teams keep bidding for him. GT had bought him at the 2026 auction for Rs 90 lakh after a bidding war involving KKR, CSK and RR, and they threw him straight into the season opener. He struck on debut, and a few weeks later he reportedly touched 154.2 kph, the fastest delivery of the tournament. GT rode their pace battery to the IPL 2026 final, where they lost to RCB, and Sharma finished with figures of 2/32 against Lucknow Super Giants as his best return. These pages cover every verified number from his IPL journey so far, alongside the domestic and international form that earned him the shot.

Who Is Ashok Sharma?
Ashok Sharma was born on 17 June 2002 in Rampura village near Jaipur, Rajasthan. His father, Nathu Lal Sharma, is a farmer, and cricket was not an obvious path for the family. His elder brother Akshay Pradhan sacrificed his own cricket to back Ashok’s, a detail that runs through every profile of him. He is a right-arm medium-fast bowler who bats right-handed, and his calling card is raw pace rather than swing.
The road almost ended early. After struggling at the Rajasthan U-23 level, Sharma was close to giving up cricket in 2021, preparing for a BA degree and a government job. One audition changed everything. He cleared the filters of the Red Bull Speedster talent hunt, beating roughly 250 hopefuls, and broke the 140 kph mark in the final. That earned him attention, and after trials in 2023 where he dismissed Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler twice in a single over at BKC Mumbai, Rajasthan Royals brought him on as a net bowler in 2024. He was also mentored early by the late coach Vivek Yadav, and Pat Cummins advised him during his time with KKR to stick to his natural style rather than tinker.
His domestic career only began in October 2025, but it moved fast. He starred for Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26, finishing as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 22 wickets in 10 matches, and earned an India A call-up. He made his India T20I debut on 23 July 2026 against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. Before the 2026-27 domestic season he received a no-objection certificate to shift his domestic base from Rajasthan to Gujarat.

Sharma’s IPL story is one of persistence through the auction list. KKR picked him for Rs 55 lakh at the 2022 auction and Rajasthan Royals took him for Rs 30 lakh at the 2025 auction, but he did not play a single match across either season and RR released him after finishing ninth. At the 2026 auction KKR, CSK and RR all bid before Gujarat Titans won him for Rs 90 lakh, and GT handed him his debut in the season opener. In a 2026 attack that also featured Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan under captain Shubman Gill, he finally got the games his pace had been promised.
Ashok Sharma IPL 2024 Stats
Sharma was not part of any IPL squad in 2024. He spent the year as a Rajasthan Royals net bowler, which is where his 2023 trial performances against Samson and Buttler had taken him, but he had no auction tag and played no IPL cricket.
Ashok Sharma IPL 2025 Stats
Rajasthan Royals bought Sharma for Rs 30 lakh at the 2025 auction, but he did not play a single match and stayed on the bench for the entire season. RR finished ninth and released him. On the field it was a lost year, though his SMAT 2025-26 exploits, which began in October 2025, soon rebuilt his value. Ashok Sharma’s IPL Performance Analysis
There is only one season of real data, and it cuts both ways. An average of 38.00 and an economy of 10.86 across six matches tell you Sharma went for runs, which is what you expect from a 23-year-old bowling genuine pace for the first time at this level. But the process numbers were encouraging: six wickets in 21 overs means he struck roughly once every three and a half overs, and GT kept trusting him through a run to the final. The auction history explains the patience, because franchises have been bidding on his speed since 2022. KKR saw him first, RR gave him a second chance, and GT paid Rs 90 lakh after KKR, CSK and RR pushed the price up, which suggests teams rate him as a long-term asset rather than a one-season gamble. His SMAT 2025-26 returns (22 wickets at about 15.63) show what he does when he gets regular games, and his next step is obvious: cut the economy, turn those two-wicket bursts into spells.
