Virat Kohli owns the record for the most runs at a single venue in IPL history. He has scored more than 3,400 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, all for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. No other batter comes close to that total at one ground. It is a record built over 19 seasons with one team, at one home ground, in front of one crowd.
This record is about more than one great player. It shows how a home ground can shape a career. A batter who knows the bounce, the boundaries and the crowd at one venue can score there year after year. The list below covers the top 10 batters by runs at a single IPL venue, with the ground, the total and the story behind each mark.
The totals in the main table are verified through the end of IPL 2025. Kohli then stretched his lead further in IPL 2026, and Rohit Sharma passed 2,500 runs at Wankhede in March 2026. Those later milestones are covered in the IPL 2026 update section below.

Most Runs at a Single Venue IPL Overview
Virat Kohli leads this record with 3,202 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium through the end of IPL 2025. He reached that total in 92 innings at Bengaluru, with four centuries and 24 fifties at the ground. Rohit Sharma is second, with 2,451 runs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai before IPL 2026. AB de Villiers is third, with 1,960 runs at Bengaluru, also for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Top 10 Most Runs at a Single Venue in IPL
Bengaluru and Mumbai dominate this list. Bengaluru appears three times in the top five, because Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle all piled up runs there for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Wankhede appears three times in the top 10, through Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard, all for Mumbai Indians. Chennai and Kolkata each appear twice, through long serving home team stars.

| 10 | Kieron Pollard | Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai | 1,226 |
Just outside the top 10, Robin Uthappa scored 1,159 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Andre Russell passed 1,000 runs at the same ground in May 2025, with 1,046 runs at Eden Gardens at that point. That shows how rare this mark is. Only a small group of batters has ever reached 1,000 runs at one IPL venue.
Record History
Kohli passed 2,500 runs at a single venue in April 2023, during a match against Delhi Capitals at Bengaluru. He was the first batter to reach that mark at one IPL ground. In May 2024 he became the first batter to pass 3,000 runs at one IPL venue, when his total at Bengaluru moved past 3,040 runs during a match against Chennai Super Kings.
By the end of IPL 2025 his Bengaluru total stood at 3,202 runs. The next best mark at that stage was Rohit Sharma with 2,451 runs at Wankhede. That gap of 751 runs shows how far ahead Kohli sits. Even a full home season of big scores would not close it in one year.
Rohit Sharma reached his own landmark in IPL 2026. He passed 2,500 runs at Wankhede on 30 March 2026, when he scored 78 runs off 38 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders at Mumbai. Reports put his Wankhede total at 2,529 runs after that innings. He became only the second batter to pass 2,500 runs at a single IPL venue.
Kohli also stretched his own record in IPL 2026. Data through the end of IPL 2026 puts his Bengaluru total at 3,448 runs. That is 246 runs more than his total at the end of IPL 2025, and it keeps him well clear at the top of this list.
Venue by Venue Marks
At Bengaluru, Kohli leads with 3,202 runs through IPL 2025, followed by AB de Villiers with 1,960 runs and Chris Gayle with 1,561 runs. Gayle also owns the highest individual score at the ground, with 175 not out against Pune Warriors in 2013. AB de Villiers scored 133 not out against Mumbai Indians at Bengaluru in 2015, another famous innings at the venue. For the full Bengaluru list, see Most Runs at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL.
At Wankhede, Rohit Sharma leads with 2,451 runs before IPL 2026, followed by Suryakumar Yadav with 1,395 runs and Kieron Pollard with 1,226 runs. Rohit also passed 100 sixes at Wankhede in IPL 2025, joining Kohli, Gayle and AB de Villiers as the only batters with 100 sixes at one IPL venue at that stage. For the full Mumbai list, see Most Runs at Wankhede Stadium in IPL.
At Chennai, MS Dhoni leads with 1,547 runs at Chepauk, just ahead of Suresh Raina with 1,498 runs. Dhoni also leads the sixes list at the ground, with 78 sixes at Chepauk. For the full Chennai list, see Most Runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium in IPL. At Kolkata, Gautam Gambhir leads with 1,407 runs at Eden Gardens, ahead of Robin Uthappa with 1,159 runs.
At Hyderabad, David Warner leads with 1,623 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. He scored those runs at a very high average for a venue total, with three centuries and 15 fifties in 31 innings at the ground through 2023, plus later visits with other teams. His best at the ground was 126 runs off 58 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017.
What This Record Tells Us
Home ground records reward loyalty and time. Every batter in the top 10 spent many seasons with one team, or returned to one ground again and again. Kohli has played his whole IPL career for one team at one home ground. Rohit, Dhoni, Raina, Gambhir and Pollard all had long runs with one franchise. That time is what turns good home form into a record total.
The record also rewards batting friendly grounds. Bengaluru has short boundaries and a fast outfield, so big scores come often there. Wankhede also suits batters, with true bounce and quick outfield. Chennai is different. Chepauk is slower and turns more, so Dhoni and Raina earned their totals with smart batting rather than pure power.
A venue total is not the same as a career total. A batter can rank high overall without ranking high at one ground, if his runs are spread across many venues. This list picks out the players who owned one ground. That is why it is led by one team stars, and why the same names keep appearing in venue records for sixes and fifties too. For sixes at one ground, see IPL Stats: Batters with Most Sixes at a Single Venue, and for the bowling side, see IPL Stats: Bowlers with Most Wickets at a Single Venue.
