Raj Angad Bawa arrived in the IPL with one of the loudest youth credentials of his generation. His unbeaten 162 against Uganda at the 2022 Under-19 World Cup broke Shikhar Dhawan’s record for the highest score by an Indian at the tournament, and his 5 for 31 in the final against England made him the first Indian to take a five-wicket haul in an ICC tournament final at the under-19 level. Punjab Kings paid Rs 2 crore for that promise in the 2022 auction.
Four seasons on, the Himachal Pradesh all-rounder is still waiting for a proper run of games. A move to Mumbai Indians in the 2025 mega auction gave him a fresh dressing room, and 2026 finally brought him overs with the ball. With 8 matches, 35 runs and 2 wickets in his IPL career so far, Bawa remains a development project — but Mumbai Indians’ decision to retain him for 2026 shows they believe the talent that lit up the U19 World Cup is still there.

Who Is Raj Angad Bawa?
Raj Angad Bawa was born on 12 November 2002 in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh. He is a left-handed middle-order batter and a right-arm medium-fast bowler who plays domestic cricket for Chandigarh. Sport runs deep in his family: his grandfather Tarlochan Bawa was a member of India’s hockey team that won gold at the 1948 Olympics, and his father Sukhwinder Bawa is a well-known cricket coach who is credited with first recognising Yuvraj Singh’s talent. Bawa idolises Yuvraj and wears jersey number 12 in his honour.

Raj Angad Bawa’s IPL Performance Analysis
Five seasons in, the story of Raj Angad Bawa’s IPL career is one of promise repeatedly interrupted by lack of opportunity. Punjab Kings paid a premium for his U19 pedigree but never used him with the ball and handed him only two innings with the bat. Mumbai Indians picked him up cheaply and have shown more patience — retaining him twice and, in 2026, finally deploying the right-arm medium-fast bowling that was central to his U19 success.
The 2026 sample is small but directionally positive: his economy of 12.50 needs work, yet two wickets in four overs and a career-high 16 with the bat suggest the all-round package is intact. He has also been a lively fielder, taking six catches in eight games. For an all-rounder who does not bowl, selection math is harsh — but if Mumbai continue to give him the new ball in spells rather than as an afterthought, his trajectory could shift quickly. At 23, time is still firmly on his side. The coming retention cycle, detailed on this site’s IPL 2027 retention guide, will be a real test of how the franchise values him.
