Rilee Rossouw’s IPL story comes in two parts. The first began in 2011, when Royal Challengers Bangalore signed him and he did not play a game, and ran through five forgettable appearances across 2014 and 2015 that produced just 53 runs. The second part is the interesting one: a veteran batter, fresh from a Kolpak exile and a string of strong seasons around the world, walked back into the league in 2023 at the age of 33 and produced back-to-back seasons that reminded everyone why he was bought in the first place. Rilee Rossouw IPL Stats now read 22 matches, 473 runs, an average of 23.65 and a strike rate of 153.57 — modest totals, but with two half-centuries and a top score of 82 not out.
Delhi Capitals paid Rs 4.60 crore for him in 2023, and Punjab Kings paid Rs 8 crore a year later. Those were his last two IPL seasons. He went unsold at the 2025 mega auction and again at the 2026 mini auction, so he enters the 2027 window as a free agent. This page brings together his season by season numbers, his auction history and what his IPL record actually says.

Who Is Rilee Rossouw?
Rilee Roscoe Rossouw was born on 9 October 1989 in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He is a left handed top-order batter who bowls occasional right arm off break. His international career started badly: he made four ducks in his first six ODI innings for South Africa in 2014, then answered with a match-winning 78 off 50 balls on his T20I debut against Australia later that year.
In January 2017 he signed a Kolpak deal with Hampshire, which ended his South Africa career, and he spent the next years as a T20 freelancer. He returned to the national side in 2022 and scored two T20I centuries that year, including his first against India at Indore. His T20I career ended with 29 matches, 767 runs and a strike rate of 159.79.
Away from the IPL he has been one of the busiest franchise batters in the world, turning out for Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans in the PSL, Pretoria Capitals and Joburg Super Kings in the SA20, Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the CPL, and Hampshire in England. He owns the fastest triple century in South African domestic cricket, 319 off 291 balls, and was the leading run-scorer in the 2018-19 Bangladesh Premier League with 558 runs in 14 matches.

Rossouw has worn three IPL shirts across four playing seasons. His RCB years bookend the story: a squad place in 2011 and five matches in 2014-15, when he could not break into a side built around its established stars. Eight years later he returned through the 2023 auction with Delhi Capitals, then moved to Punjab Kings in 2024. Years after his RCB stint, the franchise rebuilt its batting core around Faf du Plessis and Mohammed Siraj led the attack, a reminder of how completely the league’s landscape changed between his two spells.

Rilee Rossouw IPL Records and Achievements
Rossouw never set IPL records, but his career has two clear achievements. The first is the comeback itself: after five matches across 2014 and 2015, he earned his way back into the league in 2023 and was bought for Rs 4.60 crore by Delhi Capitals — one of the bigger overseas batting buys of that auction. The second is the Rs 8 crore price Punjab Kings paid in 2024, the highest auction figure of his IPL career, reflecting a season in which he struck at 181.90. His unbeaten 82 remains his defining IPL innings.
Rilee Rossouw’s IPL Performance Analysis
The numbers tell a clean story of two eras. In the first, at RCB in 2014 and 2015, he played five matches, scored 53 runs and never got a run of games in a batting line-up with no room for a young overseas opener. In the second, across 2023 and 2024, he played 17 matches and scored 420 runs — 89 percent of his career IPL runs.
The 2023 return season at Delhi was his most productive: 209 runs at 29.86, including the 82*, scored in a side that mixed veteran leadership from David Warner with Rishabh Pant’s captaincy. The 2024 season produced fewer runs but better batting: 211 runs at a strike rate of 181.90, with boundary hitting doing the heavy lifting — 25 fours and 11 sixes in eight innings. Arshdeep Singh, who shared the Punjab dressing room that season, would have seen the best of him in training.
The caveat is consistency. Averages of 26.38 and 29.86 are middling, and with just two fifties in 22 games he never converted starts regularly. His method is high risk: the strike rate is the asset, the average the cost. That trade-off explains both the Rs 8 crore bid and the back-to-back unsold auctions that followed.
