Umran Malik IPL 2027 Stats: Wickets, Price, Team
Few bowlers have rattled batters quite the way Umran Malik did in 2022, when the Sunrisers Hyderabad speedster regularly pushed the speed gun past 150 kph and finished with 22 wickets in 14 games. This Umran Malik IPL stats page brings together his full league record: 29 wickets from 26 matches, the famous 5 for 25 against Gujarat Titans, the 157 kph delivery that made him the fastest Indian bowler in IPL history, and a price journey that slid from a Rs 4 crore retention to a Rs 75 lakh base-price deal with Kolkata Knight Riders.
Since that breakout season, though, the story has been one of injuries and fading opportunities. He played only eight games in 2023, a single over in 2024, and missed the entire 2025 season after an injury ruled him out before a ball was bowled. Below is the season-by-season breakdown of what he has done in the IPL, what KKR’s retention means, and where he stands ahead of IPL 2027.

Who Is Umran Malik?
Umran Malik was born on 22 November 1999 in Gujjar Nagar, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, and represents Jammu and Kashmir in domestic cricket. A right-arm fast bowler with a smooth, whippy action, he earned the nickname “Jammu Express” after a string of 150 kph spells lit up IPL 2022.
Malik arrived in the IPL almost by accident. Signed as a net bowler by Sunrisers Hyderabad in April 2021, he was drafted into the main squad as an injury replacement and made his debut on 3 October 2021 against Chetan Sakariya‘s future side Kolkata Knight Riders. The 2022 season turned him into a national talking point and a spot in India’s white-ball sides, where he played 10 ODIs and 8 T20Is, taking 24 international wickets.

Umran Malik IPL Highest Score
Umran Malik’s highest IPL score is 19 not out. Batting is a footnote in his career: 23 runs from 26 matches at an average of 11.50, with a solitary four and two sixes. His value has always been measured in pace and wickets, never runs.
Umran Malik IPL Wickets and Best Bowling
Malik has taken 29 IPL wickets at an average of 26.62 and an economy of 9.40. His best figures, 5 for 25, came against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 and marked his first five-wicket haul in T20 cricket. He added a single four-wicket-style peak that season, finishing 2022 as Sunrisers’ highest wicket-taker. Since then, his returns have fallen sharply: five wickets in 2023 at 10.85 an over, and no wickets at all in 2024.
Umran Malik IPL Auction Price History
| Season | Team | Price | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | SRH | Rs 20 lakh | Injury replacement signing |
| 2022 | SRH | Rs 4 crore | Retained pre-auction |
| 2023 | SRH | Rs 4 crore | Retained |
| 2024 | SRH | Rs 4 crore | Retained |
| 2025 | KKR | Rs 75 lakh | Bought at base price (mega auction) |
| 2026 | KKR | Rs 75 lakh | Retained |
The price history tells his career arc in miniature. Hyderabad backed him with Rs 4 crore before the 2022 mega auction, one of the biggest investments in an uncapped Indian fast bowler at the time. Three quiet seasons later, only KKR bid for him at the 2025 mega auction, and he could not take the field because of injury.

Umran Malik’s IPL Performance Analysis
The numbers split neatly into two careers. In 2021 and 2022, Malik was a genuine wicket-taking weapon: 24 wickets in 17 games, with a strike-rate-style threat that no Indian domestic seamer could match. The 2022 campaign was the standout, built on raw pace that unsettled set batters and produced a five-for that turned a match against Gujarat Titans.
From 2023 onwards, control problems and injuries eroded everything. His economy climbed to 10.85 in 2023 while his strike rate collapsed to barely a wicket every 24 balls, and in 2024 he played just one match. The Dale Steyn observation from that period, that Malik should bowl fewer all-out gears rather than every delivery flat out, captures the technical concern around him. His KKR spell adds another wrinkle: he is still young, he still has express pace, and franchises keep him on contracts for that reason, but since mid-2023 he has barely bowled a competitive over in the league. IPL 2027, whenever his status is confirmed, looks like a last real window to convert pace into a sustained IPL career.
