Who Is Vidwath Kaverappa?
Vidwath Kaverappa was born on 25 February 1999 in Kodagu (Coorg), Karnataka. He is an Indian fast bowler who represents Karnataka in domestic cricket. He bowls right-arm fast-medium and bats right-handed, though his reputation rests almost entirely on his bowling.
Kaverappa came to cricket later than many of his peers. As a child he played basketball, football and even represented Karnataka in handball. He moved to Bengaluru to pursue cricket seriously and worked his way through Karnataka’s age-group teams. He made his first-class debut for Karnataka against Puducherry in March 2022.
His breakthrough came in the 2022 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets in 8 matches at an economy rate of 6.36. He followed it up with 17 wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and was named player of the series in the 2023 Duleep Trophy final, where his wickets included Cheteshwar Pujara and Suryakumar Yadav. Those performances earned him a call from Punjab Kings.

Vidwath Kaverappa’s IPL Performance Analysis
There is very little IPL data to judge Kaverappa by, so one game carries the whole story. That game was encouraging. Opening the bowling in a high-scoring contest, he swung the new ball, attacked the top order and picked up two wickets. The economy of 9.00 looks high, but it includes dropped catches that would have changed the innings completely. Before the dropped catches and late sixes, his powerplay spell was one of the best debut performances by an uncapped Indian seamer in recent seasons.
The harder question is why it has not led anywhere. Punjab moved on after 2024, and two auctions passed without a bid. Franchises have clearly valued established overseas pace and senior Indian quicks over an uncapped seamer with one IPL game behind him. For Kaverappa, the path back is straightforward: pile up wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, where his record is already strong, and force a bid at the next auction.
