Few IPL careers have taken as strange a route as Shashank Singh’s. In December 2023, the Punjab Kings raised their paddle for a 32-year-old uncapped Indian all-rounder in the accelerated round of the IPL 2024 auction, bought him for his Rs 20 lakh base price, and then appeared to want the bid back. The sale stood. Four months later, that same cricketer was finishing chases that had no business being finished. This page brings together Shashank Singh IPL stats in full: his season-by-season numbers, career totals, auction and retention price history, and where he stands ahead of IPL 2027.
Across 53 IPL matches, Shashank has scored 905 runs at an average of 36.20 and a strike rate of 161.61, with six fifties and a highest score of 68 not out. His two standout seasons, 2024 and 2025 with Punjab Kings, produced 704 runs combined and a retention worth Rs 5.50 crore. Below is the complete statistical record of one of the IPL’s most unlikely breakout stories.

Who Is Shashank Singh?
Shashank Singh was born on 21 November 1991 in India. He is a right-handed middle-order batter who bowls right-arm off-break and is listed as a batting all-rounder. His domestic career began with Mumbai in 2015, took him to Puducherry in 2018-19 and then to Chhattisgarh in 2019, where he built a solid white-ball record including a BCCI award as the best domestic white-ball all-rounder in 2023-24. Ahead of the 2026-27 domestic season he moved back to Puducherry as a guest player, choosing to focus on white-ball cricket after a string of injuries.
In the IPL, his early years were spent on the fringes. He was bought by the Delhi Daredevils in 2017 and the Rajasthan Royals in 2019 but did not play a match for either, and he went unsold in the 2021 and 2023 auctions. Sunrisers Hyderabad gave him his debut in 2022, where he played 10 matches and scored 69 runs. Nothing about that suggested what was coming. The accidental Rs 20 lakh buy by Punjab Kings at the IPL 2024 auction changed everything: within one season he was one of the most feared finishers in the league, and he has been a key part of the PBKS middle order ever since.

|---|---|---|
| 2017 | Delhi Daredevils | Squad member, did not play |

| 2024 | Punjab Kings | Bought for Rs 20 lakh, played 14 matches |
| 2025 | Punjab Kings | Retained for Rs 5.50 crore, played 17 matches |
| 2026 | Punjab Kings | Retained for Rs 5.50 crore, played 12 matches |
| 2027 | Not officially confirmed | Retention status not announced |
Shashank has worn four IPL shirts without ever settling until he reached Punjab. The Delhi and Rajasthan years gave him squad experience but no game time. Hyderabad gave him a debut in 2022 but released him after a quiet season, and he went unsold in 2023. His move to Punjab Kings in 2024, under the most unusual circumstances in recent auction history, finally gave him a stable home. He has now played three consecutive seasons for PBKS, his Rs 5.50 crore retention before the 2025 mega auction marking the moment the league priced him as a proven finisher rather than a punt.

This was the season that made him. Picked up for Rs 20 lakh after the famous auction mix-up, Shashank repaid Punjab with 354 runs at a strike rate of 164.65, the best strike rate of his career to that point. The defining innings came against the Gujarat Titans, where his unbeaten 61 off 29 balls chased down a target of 200, and against the Kolkata Knight Riders, where his unbeaten 68* sealed another memorable win. He batted in every game, stayed unbeaten six times, and finished the season as one of the league’s standout stories, alongside fellow PBKS find Ashutosh Sharma.

Retained for Rs 5.50 crore ahead of the mega auction, Shashank proved the price tag was justified. He scored 350 runs at an average of exactly 50.00, the best average of his career, with three fifties in 14 innings. He also deputised as Punjab’s stand-in captain in a match when Shreyas Iyer had to leave the field injured, underlining how central he had become to a franchise that also leans on keeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh at the top of the order. The season ended with PBKS reaching their first IPL final since 2014, and Shashank walked out in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and finished 61 not out off 30 balls, a knock that capped back-to-back 350-run seasons.

By his own high standards, 2026 was a lean season with the bat. Shashank played 12 matches but batted in only nine innings, managing 132 runs at an average of 22.00, well below the 350-plus totals of the previous two years. The one bright spot with the bat was a 56 against RCB, while his strike rate of 188.57 showed the intent was still there. Where he did contribute more than before was with the ball: he bowled 10 overs and picked up 4 wickets, his heaviest bowling workload in an IPL season. Injury concerns and patchy form made this his most difficult campaign in a PBKS shirt, and it left his IPL 2027 retention status open to debate.

Shashank Singh’s IPL Performance Analysis
The numbers tell a clear three-act story. Act one was invisibility: five seasons across four franchises without a single meaningful opportunity. Act two was the explosion: from 2024, batting in the toughest phase of the innings, Shashank produced two seasons of 350-plus runs with averages of 44.25 and 50.00 and strike rates above 150. His value was concentrated in the death overs, where his boundary-hitting and calm head made him Punjab’s designated closer.
Act three, 2026, was the correction. His average halved, his innings count dropped from 14 to 9, and his fielding came under scrutiny. But two details suggest the story is not over: his strike rate actually rose to 188.57, and he took on his biggest bowling workload yet, which points to a player still trusted in multiple roles. Whether Punjab retain him at Rs 5.50 crore for 2027 or put him back in the auction pool, his 2024-25 peak proved he belongs at this level. For a player who spent his twenties waiting for a chance, the ceiling was always higher than the price tag.
