Atharva Taide’s IPL stats tell the story of a young left-hander still searching for a permanent home in the league. Bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 20 lakh in the 2022 mega auction, Taide waited a full season before making his debut — a three-ball duck against Lucknow Super Giants in April 2023. Less than two weeks later, chasing 258 against the same opposition, he produced the finest knock of his IPL career: 66 off 36 balls. Across 10 IPL matches for Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, he has scored 260 runs at a strike rate of 146.89.
The 26-year-old from Akola, Maharashtra, moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 30 lakh at the 2025 mega auction after three seasons with Punjab Kings, and was retained by SRH for 2026. A naturally aggressive top-order batter who bowls part-time left-arm spin, Taide has shown in flashes that he belongs at this level — but with only 10 appearances in four seasons, his IPL career is still waiting for its breakthrough. This page covers his full IPL record: season-by-season numbers, highest scores, auction price history, and his IPL 2027 status.

Who Is Atharva Taide?
Atharva Taide is a left-handed top-order batter from Akola in Maharashtra who plays his domestic cricket for Vidarbha. He made his List A debut for Vidarbha against Baroda in September 2018, his first-class debut against Gujarat that December, and his T20 debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in February 2019. He has been a regular in Vidarbha’s white-ball sides since his teens, known for an aggressive approach at the top of the order.
Punjab Kings picked him up for Rs 20 lakh at the IPL 2022 mega auction. He did not play a single game in his first season and had to wait until April 2023 for his debut. A composed domestic record — including five first-class hundreds — suggests there is more to his batting than his short IPL career has shown so far. At 26, time is still on his side, but the competition for Indian top-order slots in every IPL squad is fierce.

Taide’s IPL journey has been a slow burn. Three seasons with Punjab Kings brought just nine appearances, with the bulk of those coming in 2023 when injuries and form opened a window at the top of the order. His move to Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of 2025 — for a Rs 10 lakh raise to Rs 30 lakh — looked like a fresh start, but he played only once in 2025 and not at all in 2026 despite being retained. With Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head owning SRH’s opening slots, breaking into the XI has proved difficult.

Taide’s debut season remains his most productive. After a duck on debut against Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow, he responded with 29 off 17 against Mumbai Indians and then the standout innings of his career — 66 off 36 balls against LSG at Mohali on 28 April, an innings of eight fours and two sixes in a chase of 258. A 55 off 42 against Delhi Capitals at Dharamshala on 17 May gave him a second fifty of the season. His strike rate of 144.19 across the season showed he could score at the tempo the modern game demands, even if consistency was missing.

Opportunities dried up in 2024. Taide played just twice for Punjab Kings — 15 off 12 against Rajasthan Royals and an eye-catching 46 off 27 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, his future employers, before falling to T. Natarajan. The strike rate of 156.41 was the best of any of his seasons, but two innings are too few to judge a player on. Punjab released him ahead of the 2025 mega auction.

Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Taide for Rs 30 lakh at the 2025 mega auction, but his first season in orange brought a single appearance — 13 off 9 balls against Lucknow Super Giants on 19 May 2025. With Ishan Kishan arriving as SRH’s big-money Indian batting signing and the established opening pair untouched, Taide spent most of the season on the bench.

Retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 2026, Taide did not play a single match during the season. He remained in the squad throughout but could not displace any of SRH’s preferred Indian batters. For a player of 26, a second consecutive season on the fringes is a concern — his next move, whether retention, trade or auction, will shape the rest of his IPL career.

Atharva Taide’s IPL Performance Analysis
The numbers draw a clear arc. In 2023, given a genuine run of seven games, Taide scored 186 runs at 144.19 with two fifties — respectable output for a 23-year-old Indian opener in his first season. His strike rate has never dipped below 144 in any season he has played, which tells you the intent is there. The problem is volume: since that debut season he has batted only three times in the IPL.
Two patterns stand out. First, he scores in bursts — his two fifties and the 46 against SRH all came when he batted in the top three with a clear role. Second, franchises keep him around but rarely play him: retained by both Punjab and Hyderabad, yet trusted with just 10 games in five seasons. That suggests coaches rate his talent and temperament in the nets but have not found a XI slot for him. At SRH, the Abhishek Sharma–Travis Head opening combination has been immovable, which explains the 2025–26 drought.
The honest reading is that Taide is at a crossroads. His domestic record for Vidarbha remains strong, and at 26 he is entering his prime batting years. But another season of bench-warming would stall his career. A move to a franchise needing an Indian opener — through trade or the 2027 auction — may be exactly what his IPL career needs.
