Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 287 for 3 in that match. That is still the highest team total in IPL history. Royal Challengers Bengaluru replied with 262 for 7. That is the highest total by a team in a losing cause in the IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match by 25 runs. The game also set the record for the highest match aggregate in all T20 cricket.

Sunrisers Hyderabad appear in five of these top 10 matches. That is no surprise. Their batting lineup in 2024 and 2025 attacked from the start and rarely slowed down. Record History

For many years, a 450 run match was a rare event in the IPL. Chennai Super Kings scored 246 for 5 against Rajasthan Royals at Chennai in 2010. Rajasthan Royals replied with 223 for 5. The total of 469 runs stood near the top of the list for a long time. It is now outside the top 10.

The 2024 season changed everything. Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 277 for 3 against Mumbai Indians at Hyderabad on 27 March 2024. Mumbai Indians replied with 246 for 5. The aggregate of 523 runs was a new record at the time. It lasted less than three weeks.

On 15 April 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad went even further at Bengaluru. Travis Head scored 102 runs from 41 balls. Heinrich Klaasen scored 67 runs from 31 balls. Dinesh Karthik replied with 83 runs from 35 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The two teams together scored 549 runs, with 43 fours and 38 sixes.

On 26 April 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders scored 261 for 6 at Kolkata. Punjab Kings chased it down with 262 for 2 in 18.4 overs. Jonny Bairstow scored 108 not out from 48 balls. Shashank Singh scored 68 not out from 28 balls. That chase is still counted among the highest successful run chases in IPL history, and it also produced a 523 run aggregate.

The 2025 season kept the trend going. Ishan Kishan scored 106 not out from 47 balls on his Sunrisers Hyderabad debut against Rajasthan Royals at Hyderabad on 23 March 2025. Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 286 for 6. Rajasthan Royals replied with 242 for 6. The aggregate was 528 runs, the second highest at that time.

On 12 April 2025, Abhishek Sharma scored 141 runs from 55 balls for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Punjab Kings at Hyderabad. Punjab Kings had scored 245 for 6. Sunrisers Hyderabad chased the target in 18.3 overs and finished on 247 for 2. The aggregate was 492 runs.

The 2026 season then produced a new second place entry. Delhi Capitals scored 264 for 2 at New Delhi on 25 April 2026. KL Rahul scored 152 not out from 67 balls. Punjab Kings chased the target and finished on 265 for 4 in 18.5 overs. The aggregate of 529 runs is now the second highest in IPL history, and the chase is the highest successful chase in IPL history. What This Record Tells Us

A high match aggregate needs two things. First, one team must post a huge total. Second, the other team must fight back instead of collapsing. The 549 run game had both. Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost, but their 262 for 7 made the match historic. A one sided game rarely produces a record aggregate.

Venues matter too. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi and Ahmedabad all appear in the top 10. These grounds have true pitches, short boundaries in places and fast outfields. Batters trust the bounce and play their shots with freedom.

The record also shows how much T20 batting has changed. Teams now plan for 200 plus totals as a normal target, not a dream score. Power hitters bat deep into the lineup. Even a total of 240 runs is no longer safe. That is why aggregates above 470 runs, once unheard of, now appear almost every season.

For bowlers, these games are a hard lesson. A good over is now one that goes for only eight or nine runs. Yorkers, slower balls and smart changes of pace matter more than ever. A single loose over can change the whole match.
