When five consecutive deliveries disappeared into the Ahmedabad stands on a spring night in 2023, Rinku Singh stopped being a promising domestic batter and became Indian cricket’s most trusted finisher. With 29 needed off the final over against Gujarat Titans, he hit Yash Dayal for five straight sixes and finished unbeaten on 48 off 21 balls to complete one of the most audacious chases in IPL history. Kolkata Knight Riders have kept him ever since: a one-franchise man through 73 IPL matches, a ₹13 crore retention, and a 2024 title winner.
Rinku Singh’s IPL story is unusual for a modern finisher. His strike rate has barely moved since his breakout — around 148 to 154 in every season from 2022 onward — yet his average has swung from 59.25 in his career-best 2023 to 18.67 in a lean 2024, then back to 59.00 in a 2026 resurgence capped by a career-best unbeaten 83. This page covers his full IPL record: 1,394 runs at a 145.97 strike rate, season-by-season numbers, auction and retention history, and his confirmed status for the IPL 2027 season.

Who Is Rinku Singh?
Rinku Singh was born on 12 October 1997 in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, and represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. A left-handed batter, he built his reputation as a T20 finisher through the domestic circuit before the IPL gave him a bigger stage. He is an India international, having made his T20I debut against Ireland in August 2023.
In the IPL he is a one-franchise player: Kolkata Knight Riders bought him in the 2018 auction for ₹80 lakh and have kept him through every season since, including the 2024 title run under Shreyas Iyer alongside teammates such as Venkatesh Iyer, with Ajinkya Rahane captaining the side in 2025. Ahead of the 2025 mega auction KKR retained him as their first retention for ₹13 crore — a statement price for a player bought for less than one crore eight years earlier — and held him at the same value for 2026.
Rinku Singh IPL Teams
| Season | Team | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Auction buy (₹80 lakh) |
| 2019 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Retained |
| 2020 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Retained |
| 2021 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Retained (missed the season) |
| 2022 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Auction buy (₹55 lakh) |
| 2023 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Retained (₹55 lakh) |
| 2024 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Retained |
| 2025 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Retained (₹13 crore) |
| 2026 | Kolkata Knight Riders | Retained (₹13 crore) |
| 2027 | Not officially confirmed | Retention / auction not yet announced |
He has never represented another franchise. The loyalty runs both ways: KKR kept faith through seasons where he barely played (2018 to 2021 combined for 78 runs), and the payoff came in 2023, when Rinku finished as the team’s leading run-scorer and delivered the most talked-about over of that season.
Rinku Singh IPL 2024 Stats
| Matches | Runs | Highest Score | Average | Strike Rate | Fifties | Fours | Sixes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15 | 168 | 26 | 18.67 | 148.67 | 0 | 13 | 8 |
His leanest full season arrived the same year KKR lifted the trophy. Chasing line-ups stacked with in-form batters, Rinku batted sparingly and never crossed 26. His strike rate stayed healthy — a quiet signal that the underlying game had not gone anywhere.
Rinku Singh IPL 2025 Stats
| Matches | Runs | Highest Score | Average | Strike Rate | Fifties | Fours | Sixes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 13 | 206 | 38* | 29.43 | 153.73 | 0 | 20 | 10 |
A better return in 2025, though still modest for a ₹13 crore retention. He struck at 153.73, his second-best seasonal rate, but with only 11 innings and a highest score of 38 not out, the big finish never quite materialised across the season.
Rinku Singh IPL 2026 Stats
| Matches | Runs | Highest Score | Average | Strike Rate | Fifties | Fours | Sixes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14 | 295 | 83* | 59.00 | 148.99 | 2 | 27 | 11 |
The bounce-back season. A career-best unbeaten 83 against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow headlined a 295-run campaign at an average of 59.00 — matching his 2023 average almost exactly. He played his last IPL match of the season against Delhi Capitals at Eden Gardens in May 2026.

Rinku Singh IPL Highest Score
Rinku Singh’s highest IPL score is 83 not out, made against Lucknow Super Giants in 2026. It was his first IPL score past 70 and doubled as the career-best innings of his comeback season. Before that, his highest had been an unbeaten 67 against Chennai Super Kings in 2023 — the same year he produced the famous five sixes against Gujarat Titans. His first two fifties of 2026 both came in that resurgent campaign.
Rinku Singh IPL Batting Records
- One of the few players in IPL history to hit five consecutive sixes in an over — against Yash Dayal of Gujarat Titans in the final over at Ahmedabad in 2023, chasing down 29 runs.

Rinku Singh’s IPL Performance Analysis
The numbers describe a player whose role has stayed fixed while his output has moved in waves. From 2022 onward his strike rate has never left the 148 to 154 corridor — the five-sixes Rinku is always present. What changed was volume: 474 runs in 2023, then 168 in 2024 as KKR’s title-winning top order left little work for the finisher, then 206 in 2025 and 295 in 2026 as he climbed back to the front of the order’s queue.
Two of his four 50-plus-average seasons (2023 and 2026) sit on either side of the trough, which suggests the lean years were about opportunity and touch rather than a fading skill. The red flag for 2027 watchers is match volume rather than form: in three of his last four seasons he has faced fewer than 150 balls all season, and a finisher’s average depends entirely on the number of not-outs. If KKR bat him higher in 2027, the 2026 version — 295 runs at 59.00 — is the fair baseline, not the 2024 one.
